So we did a project a while ago that is a bit unique. Owner wanted concrete countertops and the design was such that they needed to be built in place. The tops needed to be less than 2 inches thick and integrated backsplashes needed to be less than an inch thick. There was a want for caps on two areas that the owner wanted darker, almost black with the rest to be grey and just a bit darker than your basic sidewalk. We added black and white granite to expose in the tops.
I promised the owner that the tops would crack and so far, I have not kept that promise. With over 40 square feet of area and several corners and penatrations, I was expecting several cracks. With the thin tops and backs there should have been cracks. Pouring these counters in place and grinding and polishing is not an easy process. After completing this project I have some new ideas for some other tops and even some walls, in place with various finishes. I so love this stuff.
